As I obtain more information on starting this business I am trying to narrow down my merchandise. I may want to have separate "stores" since I am having difficulty in choosing one area. My daughters want to do a food section which I believe will require food handling license and inspections. So have to do more research on that. But to start I will probably have trinkets, tools, dolls, antiques maybe, and what ever we find in our thrift store search. Start out slowly and build.

  1. Even at church, we have to have special permits to serve food. You'll have to weigh the pros and cons. Are you thinking about cookies, chocolates, etc?

  2. A food section would be fun, but I bet you do have to have a special license. You will have to let us know what you find out. I am thinking the same thing about our boat-start slowly and build:o) Have a great week.

  3. You may have better luck with garage sales in upscale areas of the city and estate sales, since so many people are reselling on eBay. I am curious to find out about the licensing for food products. I realize local sellers need those, but I had not considered what process online sellers must follow.

  4. Jennifer:
If you decide to start frequenting yard sales, let me know, I would love to go with you. I feel like I have a pretty good eye for what you might be able to resell. Also, when you get started selling online, are you going to take photos of the products and upload them? Do you have storage space for your inventory? I have about 200 Disney beanies in new condition that I have been trying to find a home for. When you get started with your endeavor, if you are interested in working out something, lets talk about that.

  6. My suggestion is to stick to something you know well. If you know a lot about antique dolls, that will determine how you make your purchases during your adventure for items to sell. You will have knowledge of how much you can sell the item for or how much value it holds, therefore will help you in advance if you are getting a "great deal" when you make that purchase. Also, take into consideration how you're going to be shipping these items. If you have a lot of fragile things, then it will require more time to package the item correctly to prevent breakage. FYI, I didn't know if you knew this, but you can get the priority boxes and envelopes that come in various sizes delivered to your home directly. You can even set it up so that the mail carrier will pick up your priority packages to be mailed, right from your doorstep!

  7. This sounds like an exciting endeavor, especially the fact that you will be working with your daughters. You may need to weight the pros and cons of each business idea. I'm still trying to figure out ebay and have many items to unload after I'm finished with school. Good luck!

  8. Yes I must get a food handlers permit from local health department. My youngest daughter wants to make a seasonings section. She is a fabulous cook and her spices and seasonings are what makes it so good. As far as going to yard sales I could always use company. I really don't know what people who collect items like, because I don't collect anything!
